QA Engineer

What You’ll Do
You’ll be the force that keeps Prep Network’s digital products fast, flawless, and reliable. As our QA Engineer, you’ll partner closely with developers to build a best-in-class testing foundation—mixing automated test coverage with hands-on exploratory work that uncovers issues before users ever see them. You’ll design and maintain automated tests, strengthen our CI/CD pipeline, validate releases across web and mobile, and push our quality bar higher with every sprint. Success in this role means establishing clear, reliable test plans across Prep Network’s codebases and building the automation foundation that raises our overall quality bar. You’ll help drive automated test coverage to 50%, improve release confidence through stronger CI/CD validation, and implement QA practices that make every deployment faster, safer, and more predictable. You’ll be recognized as the quality champion who ensures our products ship stable, accurate, and ready for real users.

Core Responsibilities
- Test Plan Development. Write clear, comprehensive test plans that define coverage, scenarios, edge cases, and validation steps for new features, ensuring consistent and reliable QA across all codebases.
- Automated Test Development. Build and maintain reliable automated test suites using Pest or PHPUnit to support stable, predictable releases across web and backend services.
- Manual & Exploratory QA. Dive into new features, uncover edge cases, validate user flows, and ensure smooth, bug-free experiences for Prep Network users.
- End-to-End & Browser Testing. Create and execute end-to-end and browser-based tests that simulate real user behavior and protect mission-critical workflows.
- CI/CD Quality Integration. Integrate testing coverage into GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines to keep deployments fast, safe, and fully validated.
- API & Database Validation. Test RESTful endpoints, verify SQL logic, and ensure data accuracy and integrity across the stack.
- Defect Reporting & Collaboration. Log issues clearly, reproduce complex bugs, and partner with engineers to get fixes deployed quickly and confidently.
- Quality Metrics & Continuous Improvement. Track quality indicators, analyze trends, and evolve our testing framework as our platform, traffic, and features scale.
Must-Haves in a Candidate
- Automated Testing Expertise. Strong experience with Pest or PHPUnit and building maintainable, scalable automation suites.
- Technical Stack Knowledge. Working understanding of PHP, Laravel, and WordPress to test effectively and debug when needed.
- End-to-End Testing Tools. Hands-on experience with workflow and browser automation tools.
- CI/CD Systems. Familiar with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or similar tools for automated test execution.
- API & Data Testing. Skilled in validating RESTful endpoints, integration behaviors, SQL queries, and data flows.
- Bug Tracking & Version Control. Comfortable with systems like Sentry and proficient in Git workflows.
- Manual & Exploratory Testing. Strong instincts for spotting edge cases, thinking like a user, and creatively breaking things.
- Analytical & Debugging Skills. Able to isolate, reproduce, and explain complex issues with clarity and precision.
Nice-to-Haves in a Candidate
- Performance & Load Testing. Ability to analyze bottlenecks, stress-test systems, and validate performance at scale.
- Mobile QA Experience. Familiarity with mobile web or app testing and device/browser nuances.
- Security Awareness. Understanding of authentication edge cases and common vulnerability patterns.
- Test Architecture Mindset. Experience designing or improving testing frameworks, tooling, or automation strategy.
- Scripting Ability. Bonus points for Python or JavaScript to build utilities or custom QA tools.
- Monitoring & Observability. Experience with logs, dashboards, or error monitoring beyond basic reporting.
- UX Sensitivity. Ability to flag usability issues, friction points, or confusing user flows.
- Relevant Education. Formal training or education in computer science, software development, information systems, or a related technical field.

- Compensation. Salary for this position ranges from $80,000 - $90,000. The starting salary will depend on the skills and applicable experience you bring to this role.
